NHL roundup: Oilers blank Jets at Heritage Classic

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Edmonton goaltender Cam Talbot recorded 31 saves as the Oilers earned a 3-0 victory against the Winnipeg Jets in the Heritage Classic in front of 33,240 at Investors Group Field on Sunday.

Talbot earned his first shutout of the season and 12th of his career.

Mark Letestu broke the deadlock with a shorthanded goal, and Darnell Nurse and Zack Kassian also scored goals for the Oilers.

Connor Hellebuyck finished with 29 saves in the losing effort.

Islanders 6, Wild 3

NEW YORK -- John Tavares scored twice and New York overcame 10 shots on goal by Zach Parise in a victory over Minnesota.

Calvin de Haan, Johnny Boychuk, Alan Quine and Thomas Hickey also scored for the Islanders, who won three of their first four home games.

Parise became the 18th active player to score 300 career goals early in the second period. He also was credited with a second goal for Minnesota following an official's review. Nino Niederreiter scored late in the third for Minnesota.

Rangers 3, Coyotes 2

NEW YORK -- Dan Girardi scored the go-ahead goal 1:55 into third period to help propel New York past Arizona at Madison Square Garden.

J.T. Miller and Josh Jooris also scored for the Rangers, who were playing their second game in as many nights. Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 27 shots for the victory.

Radim Vrabata scored both goals for the Coyotes, who received 23 saves from Louis Domingue. The Coyotes have lost four straight.

Ducks 4, Canucks 2

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Nick Ritchie and Corey Perry scored late in the final period to give Anaheim a win over Vancouver in the Ducks' home opener.

Ryan Getzlaf added three assists, and Cam Fowler and Andrew Cogliano also provided goals for the Ducks, who earned their second consecutive win after losing their first four games. Goalie John Gibson contributed 17 saves for Anaheim.



Henrik Sedin and Bo Horvat scored for the Canucks, who lost for the first time in regulation this season. Goalie Ryan Miller, who missed the previous four games because of a groin injury, stopped 33 shots in just his second appearance of the season.
