[October 31, 2016]    Oct 30 (The Sports Xchange) - The NHL came down on Detroit Red Wings forward Steve Ott on Sunday, handing out a $2,222.22 fine for spearing.

 

The amount of the fine is the maximum allowed under the collective bargaining agreement.

Ott was hit with the spearing penalty on Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara during a 1-0 loss on Saturday. The money for the fine will go to the Player's Emergency Assistance Fund.

The Tampa Bay Lightning reassigned forward Cory Conacher to the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League.

Conacher, 26, made his NHL season debut with the Lightning on Saturday night at the New Jersey Devils. He had one shot on goal in 13:26 of ice time.

The Buffalo Sabres recalled forward Nicholas Baptiste from the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.

The 6-foot-1, 206-pound Baptiste, 21, joins the team for his second career recall after recording one goal and a plus-1 rating in his first two NHL games earlier this season.

The Ottawa, Ontario, native scored two goals in Rochester's 5-2 win at St. John's on Saturday night. (Editing by Andrew Both)
