[September 06, 2016]  The West Lincoln-Broadwell boys baseball team dropped a tough one in the Logan County Baseball Tournament on Saturday hosted by Chester East Lincoln.

WLB, the #3 seed, took on the #2 seed Carroll Catholic/New Holland-Middletown/Zion Lutheran Schools and lost 3-2.

Carroll's Trent Koehler threw a solid six innings of work picking up the win on the mound with Dylan Singleton earning the one-inning save.

Sam Gleason took the hard-luck loss on the mound for the Wolverines in relief of starter Lucas Konczyk who had to be removed from the mound due to an injury. Konczyk, who was hit by a pitch in the right wrist in the first inning, got through the first two innings without giving up a run. However, his wrist began to stiffen, and Gleason was forced into action.

Konczyk's pitching line went two innings giving up two hits while striking out three. Gleason pitched four innings giving up three runs, all earned, on five hits, two walks, and four strikeouts.

Offensively, Jacob Langley had two hits on the day while Patrick McCraith, Konczyk, Gleason, and Drew Eimer each had one hit each. Eimer also had a sacrifice and RBI. McCraith and Konczyk each scored the Wolverine runs.

WLB took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when McCraith reached on an error and scored on a balk.

Carroll scored two runs in the bottom half of the third inning on a walk, two singles, and a sacrifice fly. Carroll added another run in their half of the fifth inning on a RBI single by Helton.

The Wolverines added a run in the top of the sixth inning on a RBI single by Eimer scoring Konczyk. Singleton set the Wolverines down in order in the top of the seventh to seal the victory.

WLB will be back on the field on Wednesday, September 7 against Springfield Christian at home at 4:00 pm.
