[September 06, 2016]  SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (Sept. 4, 2016) - In a last lap thriller at the Springfield Mile, Kenny Coolbeth, edged out Bryan Smith, by a mere .009 seconds.

"Harley won Springfield [Woohoo]!" Coolbeth, Jr. said. Smith, riding the No. 42 Crosley/Howerton Kawasaki Ninja 650, led every lap, twenty-four of them, but let Coolbeth slip past him on the last one.

"I tried a little bit (to pass Bryan Smith before the final lap)," said Coolbeth, Jr. "But I knew I wouldn't get all the way around him going down the straightaway like a legit draft pass, so I just buried it off in there just like I did when I beat him the other time and it worked out. I kind of screwed up coming out; kind of a little high and spun up, but it worked out." The victory was the first of the season for the fan favorite, "King of Cool"

Jered Mees, the defending GNC1 Champion and current points leader, suffered a mechanical failure, moving Smith within 17 points of Mees, and making the final race at Santa Rosa, CA, Sunday, September 25th one that will definitely be worth watching.
