[September 27, 2016]  CROSS COUNTRY:  On Friday, the cross country teams were in action at the Brissman/Lundeen Invite hosted by Augustana College. The event was one of the larger meets of the season as over 50 colleges and universities competed for the title. Two separate divisions were made with Lincoln College representing the Gold Division along with over 30 other teams.

The men's team took 20th place in the Gold Division and were again led by Sophomore Austin Webster (East Moline, IL). Webster finished 24th overall in a race that saw over 300 total runners. Others running in the top five for Lincoln were Spencer Mellow (Palm Coast, FL)(79th), Brayden Batterton (Delavan,IL)(124th), Zach Podunajec (Lincoln, IL)(151st), and Juwan Riggins (Granite City, IL)(174th).

Sophomore Deanna Anglin (Chicago, IL) led the women's team finishing in 62nd place overall. Freshman Jasmine Brooks (Joliet, IL) finished in 131st and Sophomore Amber Pierce (Calumet Park, IL) took 192nd place. Over 250 runners competed in the Lynx' division. The women's team was not able to run a full team.

Coach Herron said, "The heat and the humidity made it a very difficult race. There were a lot of teams here and I was very happy of how much better they are executing their own race plans. We are seeing improvement each week and that's what we are staying focused on."

MEN'S SOCCER:

On Thursday, the men's soccer team took on the reserve team for Central Methodist University at Freesmeier Field in Lincoln and came away with another shoutout win, their third in a row. The game started quickly with the Lynx jumping on the board in the first few minutes with a long range goal from 40 yards out by Sophomore Cristian Castillo (Moline,IL). Castillo picked up a miss-kick from the CMU goalie who was out of position and drove a long range bomb into the back of the net.

Three more Lincoln goals followed quickly as Freshman Shevon Stewart (Kingston, Jamaica) picked up two of his own while Freshman David Forde (Ocala, FL) right-footed a bender from the right wing that sailed to the upper corner of the goal just past the diving CMU keeper.

Lincoln would take a comfortable 4-0 lead into the halftime break. The second half featured superior ball control by the Lynx as they kept the ball on their feet for much of the half. Stewart found the back of the net one more time for his three-goal hat trick putting the game away for the Lynx and the 5-0 win. The shutout was the third in-a-row for the Lynx and have now allowed only one goal in the last four games outscoring their opponents 15-1.

Up next for head coach Ben Massena's Lynx is 13th ranked Illinois Central College on the road in East Peoria on Wednesday, September 28 at 4:00pm. The last time these two teams met, Lincoln lost in double overtime back on September 6. This time around, the game will count towards the Region 24 rankings. Currently, both teams are 2-0 in Region 24 play.
