Graveside Service:   11 a.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Cerro Gordo Cemetery.

John T. “Jack” Burke, 84, of Cerro Gordo, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2016 in Bement Health Care Center.

Jack was born on March 10, 1932 in Decatur, the son of Tobias Joseph and Marie M. (Marshall) Burke. Jack was a graduate of St. Teresa Catholic High school. He proudly served his country in the United States Airforce during the Korean Conflict. He was previously employed with Illinois Bell Telephone, and later retired with over forty years of service. Jack was a member of the Cerro Gordo American Legion Post 117, founding member of Heritage in Flight Museum of Lincoln, former member of Theater 7, long time member of Illiopolis Village Board, Illiopolis Fire Department. He enjoyed singing, reading, and was an avid pilot.

Jack leaves behind his son, John (Un Chu) Burke of Streator; daughter, Dr. Susan Kathleen Burke Ph.D. of Tecumseh, OK; step-grandson, Edgil “Sean” Hector IV, and niece, Gail Leonard of Decatur, and the love of his life and his everything, Carol.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara J. Leonard and Darlene Kern; son, Thomas L. Burke.

Graveside services to celebrate Jack’s life will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Cerro Gordo Cemetery. Burial will be in Cerro Gordo Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Teresa High school.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Bement Health Care for all their compassionate care they provided to Jack.
