[September 29, 2016]    On Wednesday, the Lincoln College Volleyball Team lost a heart breaker to visiting Lewis & Clark College in five close sets. LC started off rough in set one, going down 6-1, but battled back to tie the score late in the set before finally dropping it 24-26.

Set two was one in which Lincoln led all the way for a convincing 25-16 win. The Lady Lynx were not able to keep the momentum though as they again fell behind early in set three.

Another late comeback tied the score at 20-20, but Lewis & Clark would again escape with a two point win, 23-25.

Set four was another tight one as the two teams traded leads throughout until LC grabbed the momentum and took a four point lead at 24-20. But L&C would make things interesting by running off four straight points to tie the score. Lincoln managed a side out and would eventually get the set by the score of 27-25.

That set the stage for a fifth and deciding set to 15. The tension was high as the two teams battled back and forth. LC had a shot to win it, serving with a 14-13 lead but could not get the point to fall. Lewis & Clark then scored two quick points to take the set and match 14-16. The loss drops Lincoln to 11-6 and 3-3 in Region play.

LC Coach Mark Tippett: "The scores tell the story of this match pretty well. We had two evenly matched teams battling it out tonight, and, unfortunately, we came up just a little short. Credit goes to Lewis & Clark for making the plays at the very end to win the match, but I was proud of the way our team fought and of the effort they put out. It's a disappointing loss for sure, but we can't dwell on it very long because we have to come right back and play ICC tomorrow night."

Lincoln will host Illinois Central College at 6:00 PM on Friday evening.
