[April 03, 2017]  April 2 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Sunday's Major League Baseball games:

Cubs 4, Cardinals 3

The Chicago Cubs' first game as a World Series champion was a loss.

Randal Grichuk lined a bases-loaded single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth Sunday night to give the St. Louis Cardinals a 4-3 win over the Cubs.

With one out, pinch hitter Jose Martinez lined a double off the wall in right-center off Mike Montgomery (0-1). After Yadier Molina drew the first no-pitch intentional walk under a new major league rule, Stephen Piscotty looked at a third strike.

Rays 7, Yankees 3

Evan Longoria and Logan Morrison each homered and drove in three runs as the Tampa Bay Rays opened the 2017 season with a 7-3 win Sunday over Masahiro Tanaka and the New York Yankees at Tropicana Field.

Chris Archer (1-0) threw seven solid innings for the Rays, who improved to 3-1 all-time in season openers against the Yankees.

Tanaka (0-1) didn't make it out of the third inning for his shortest outing since his rookie year in 2014.

D-backs 6, Giants 5

Arizona shortstop Chris Owings singled home the winning run with two outs in a two-run ninth inning, and the Diamondbacks ruined San Francisco left-hander Madison Bumgarner's historic hitting day in a 6-5 victory over the Giants at Chase Field on Sunday.

Jeff Mathis doubled to left-center with two outs in the ninth off new Giants closer Mark Melancon (0-1), and pinch hitter Daniel Descalso tied the game at 5 with a single to center. A.J. Pollock singled to center to put runners on first and third to bring up Owings.

Bumgarner became the first pitcher in major league history to hit two homers on Opening Day, and pinch hitter Conor Gillaspie's sacrifice fly in the ninth inning off Fernando Rodney (1-0) gave the Giants a 5-4 lead.
