Lincoln girls drop two to SHG on the softball diamond

[April 20, 2017]    The Lincoln Railsplitters line up for the National Anthem at the start of their home game versus Sacred Heart-Griffin. The ladies lost two to the Cyclones this week.

Tuesday Cyclones

On Tuesday in Springfield the Railsplitters fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 5-0 loss to SHG.

The Cyclones took the lead on a single in the second inning by Becca Sauer. SHG scored three runs in the third inning, highlighted by a home run by Renee Abernathy.

Lincoln’s Kerstin Osborne was 2-for-2 at the plate. Hope Moos and Sydney Worth also had hits for Lincoln. Hope Moos took the loss for Lincoln.

Kerstin Osborne struck out two batters in Lincoln's 17-1 loss to SHG

On Wednesday in Lincoln, the Railsplitters watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 17-1 loss to SHG.

The Cyclones scored four times in the top of the first inning, highlighted by doubles by Renee Abernathy and Jessica Antonacci. The Cyclones would add four more runs in the second and third innings and lead 12-0 going into the fourth inning.

SHG’s big inning in the five-run fourth inning was driven by a triple by Claire Dodson, a home run by Abernathy and a single by Jolie Robertson. SHG pounded out 17 hits to go along with the 17 runs.

Bailey Morrow earned the win for SHG going four innings and allowing just one run on two hits. She struck out three Lincoln batters.

Osborne and Worth had hits for Lincoln, with Worth driving in the lone run for the Railsplitters. Osborne also took the loss for Lincoln.
