Lincoln defeats Jacksonville 3-1 in CS-8 baseball action

[April 25, 2017]  Austin Newton picked up the win Tuesday afternoon as the Railsplitters defeated Jacksonville 3-1 in Central State Eight baseball action.

 

 

Newton struck out 10 Jacksonville batters in another outstanding performance from the mound. The senior also tossed seven innings, giving up one run on four hits, while issuing just one walk.

The offensive effort was solid for Lincoln, with the Railsplitters collecting seven hits. Isaac Lewis, Andrew Yount and Cole Sheley each had multiple hits for Lincoln. Lincoln and Jacksonville were tied 1-1 going into the seventh inning when Yount’s two-run single gave Lincoln a 3-1 lead.

Newton shut down Jacksonville in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn his third win of the season.

Lincoln’s record is now 8-12 and the Railsplitters will host Jacksonville this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. weather permitting.
