[April 28, 2017]  GILMAN - Barbara Joan Nelson Powley, 87, of Gilman, peacefully passed away with family by her side, at Iroquois Memorial Hospital, Watseka, on April 26, 2017.

Visitation: Saturday, April 29, 2017 from Noon. to 2:00 p.m. at Redenius Funeral Home

Service:  2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home

Obituary

Barbara Joan Nelson Powley, 87, of Gilman, peacefully passed away with family by her side, at Iroquois Memorial Hospital, Watseka, on April 26, 2017.

She was born on February 19, 1930, in Chicago, to Ingolf and Lyndahl Flanders Nelson. Barbara grew up in Blue Island, and graduated from Thornton Township High School. She married the love of her life, John (Jack) Powley on February 17, 1951. They eventually settled in Harvey, and raised their family of four children. Barb was known for her good sense of humor, and being a devoted mother. She worked at Sinclair as a microfilm technician, where she met her future husband. They moved to Gilman, in 1978.

She volunteered over the years as School Room Mother, President of the PTA during her children’s elementary years in Harvey, Sunday School Teacher and as a Reading Tutor. She was also a Meals on Wheels volunteer and a member of the United Methodist Church. Barbara was a beloved wife of the late Jack Powley, and the devoted mother to her surviving children: Curt Powley of Waialua, HI; Marcia Powley Sayler of Gilman, Kevin Powley of Braselton, GA; and Kyle Powley (daughter-in-law Nancy Powley ) of Lincoln.  Barb was also the proud Grammy to: Brennan Sayler, Cale Sayler, Connor Powley, Christopher Powley and Jonathan Powley.

Family and friends will gather on Saturday, April 29, 2017 for a visitation from 12:00 P.M. until the 2:00 P.M. Funeral service at Redenius Funeral Home Gilman, IL Burial will be at a later date at The Gilman Cemetery, Gilman, IL
