[April 29, 2017]  April 28 (The Sports Xchange) - Seattle Mariners ace right-hander Felix Hernandez and promising rookie right fielder Mitch Haniger will be sidelined three to four weeks with their respective injuries, the club announced Friday.

Dr. Edward Khalfayan, the team's medical director, examined the pair in Seattle on Friday and diagnosed Hernandez with bursitis in his right shoulder and Haniger with a grade 2 strain of his right oblique muscle.

Hernandez and Haniger were placed on the 10-day disabled list on Wednesday.

Hernandez, the 2010 American League Cy Young Award winner and six-time All-Star, has a 2-2 mark with a 4.73 ERA in five starts this season.

Haniger, 26, is batting .338 and leads the American League in runs (20) heading into Friday's action.

The New York Mets placed left fielder Yoenis Cespedes on the 10-day disabled list with a hamstring injury, the team announced.

The move comes one day after Cespedes left a game after running out a fourth-inning double against the Atlanta Braves.

Cespedes just returned to the lineup on Wednesday after a previous injury to the same hamstring kept him out of the lineup for three games.

New York recalled left-handed reliever Sean Gilmartin from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill the roster opening.

New York Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius returned from his rehab assignment and was reinstated from the 10-day disabled list. Gregorius, 27, was expected to make his season debut on Friday night against the visiting Baltimore Orioles.

Gregorius missed the first 20 games of the season due to a right shoulder strain he suffered on March 18 during the World Baseball Classic.

To make room on the roster, the Yankees designated infielder Pete Kozma for assignment. )
