Orioles 6, Angels 2

Mike Trout had two hits on his 26th birthday to give him 1,001 for his career, but his Los Angeles Angels lost 6-2 to the Baltimore Orioles on Monday.

Trout reached 1,000 hits with a double in the fourth inning off Baltimore starter Dylan Bundy. He joined Hall of Famers Mickey Mantle, Jimmie Foxx and Mel Ott as the fourth player to get at least 1,000 hits, 500 runs and 500 walks before his age 26-season. Baseball defines a player's age based on how old he is on July 1.

Trout also homered for the fourth time on his birthday in the sixth inning, but Manny Machado hit a tiebreaking grand slam in the seventh inning.

Pirates 3, Tigers 0

Trevor Williams pitched one-hit ball over seven scoreless innings, and John Jaso smacked a pinch-hit, two-run homer as the Pittsburgh beat Detroit.

George Kontos, in his Pittsburgh debut after being picked up off waivers Saturday, and Juan Nicasio each pitched a perfect inning in relief to complete the shutout. Nicasio earned his second save. The Tigers' only hit was a leadoff single by James McCann in the third.

Cubs 5, Giants 3

Javier Baez hit an inside-the-park home run in the second inning, and Chicago beat San Francisco.

Baez hit a ball off the right-center-field fence that bounced back toward right field after being badly misplayed by Carlos Moncrief.

Jake Arrieta (11-8) allowed three runs (two earned) and nine hits in 6 1/3 innings as Chicago won for the 16th time in 23 games since the All-Star break.

Cardinals 11, Royals 3

Matt Carpenter, Kolten Wong and Paul DeJong homered as St. Louis blasted Kansas City.

Carpenter hit a three-run homer in a six-run fourth inning. Wong and DeJong hit two-run shots in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively. Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez (8-9) gave up two runs on six hits over eight innings.

Reds 11, Padres 3

Patrick Kivlehan hit a grand slam, and Joey Votto, Adam Duvall, and Zack Cozart added two-run shots, lifting Cincinnati to victory in the opener of a three-game series.

Jose Pirela homered twice for the Padres.

Nationals 3, Marlins 2

Pinch hitter Adam Lind hit a tiebreaking RBI single with two outs in the eighth inning as Washington beat Miami.

Max Scherzer, who left his previous start with a sore neck in the top of the second, allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings but did not get a decision.

Twins 5, Brewers 4

Jorge Polanco had four hits, and Eddie Rosario scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning on a balk as Minnesota edged Milwaukee.

The Twins recovered from a 3-0 deficit a night after coming back from down five runs in a 6-5 win against the Texas Rangers.

Buddy Boshers (1-0) retired the only batter he faced for the win. Matt Belisle recorded his second consecutive save, and second of the season, as the Twins' new closer.
