The WLB boys baseball team lost their home opener to Athens 7-0 at Miller Field. Both teams were held scoreless through 3 innings until Athens plated 2 runs on 3 hits in the top of the 4th inning. Athens added 4 more in the 5th inning and added another in the 7th.

WLB struggled at the plate getting only 3 hits and struck out 16 times. The Wolverines best chance to score came in the 2nd inning stranding runners at 2nd and 3rd.

"We've got to do a much better job at the plate with 2 strikes," said Coach Nelson. "We have some guys that can hit, but we couldn't pull the trigger tonight looking at 7 called strike threes. Defensively, we played pretty well and I thought our pitchers did a decent job tonight, especially Sam in the first 2 innings."

WLB will host Illini Central on Tuesday at Miller Field. First pitch is set for 4:00pm.

Record: 0-1
