[August 16, 2017]  (The Sports Xchange) - Cincinnati Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco was placed on the disabled list Tuesday, one day after fracturing his left foot.

Mesoraco departed Monday's game against the Chicago Cubs in the second inning after being hit in the left foot by a pitch from Jose Quintana.

X-rays displayed a fracture of the fifth metatarsal. Mesoraco is batting just .213 with six homers and 14 RBIs this season.

The Pittsburgh Pirates placed outfielder Gregory Polanco on the 10-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain, the team announced.

Polanco will be making his third stint on the disabled list this season. The most recent move is retroactive to Sunday.

The New York Yankees placed right-hander Luis Cessa on the 10-day disabled list with a ribcage injury.

Cessa has appeared in 10 games, making five starts, for New York this season. He was 0-3 with a 4.75 ERA, including 4 1/3 innings of two-run ball against the New York Mets on Monday.

The Los Angeles Dodgers traded right-handed pitcher Chris Hatcher to the Oakland Athletics.

The Dodgers received international amateur signing bonus pool space in exchange for Hatcher, who has been sidelined since June 22 with thoracic inflammation.

The Chicago White Sox activated right-hander Dylan Covey from the disabled list prior to the opener of a two-game interleague series versus the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Covey will assume the available roster spot of Tyler Clippard, who was traded to the Houston Astros on Sunday for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
