Diamondbacks 4, Astros 0

Patrick Corbin came within an out of his first complete game in nearly four years, scattering four hits in 8 2/3 innings, and the Arizona Diamondbacks earned a split of their four-game, home-and-home interleague series with the Houston Astros with a 4-0 victory on Thursday.

Corbin (10-11) struck out seven, issued one walk and threw 71 of 105 pitches for strikes.

The Diamondbacks provided the requisite run support beginning in the third inning, with Jeff Mathis delivering a single that scored Ketel Marte from third base.

Daniel Descalso added an inside-the-park home run in the fourth inning, when his fly ball to center field ricocheted off the wall and past Astros center fielder Jake Marisnick. It was the third inside-the-park homer of the season for the Diamondbacks.

Reds 13, Cubs 10

Phillip Ervin drove in four runs, including a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh inning, as Cincinnati avoided blowing a nine-run lead against Chicago.

Ervin was 3-for-4 and homered off Justin Grimm (1-2) to give the Reds an 11-9 lead after they held a 9-0 advantage following the second inning. Joey Votto also homered for the Reds, who split the series despite allowing six homers on a windswept day.

Ian Happ homered twice for the Cubs, including one of four homers in the fourth. Kris Bryant hit his 23rd, Alex Avila preceded Happ's second homer with a two-run shot, and Javier Baez homered after Happ. Kyle Schwarber also went deep for Chicago.

Braves 10, Rockies 4

Ender Inciarte hit two solo homers as Atlanta beat Colorado to gain a split of a four-game series.

Freddie Freeman and Tyler Flowers also homered for the Braves, who rebounded from a 17-2 loss Wednesday.

Rookie Lucas Sims (1-3) allowed two runs and five hits in five innings for his first major league win. Charlie Blackmon had three hits and hit a ninth-inning homer for the Rockies, who lost for the seventh time in 10 games.

Blue Jays 5, Rays 3

Justin Smoak hit the go-ahead two-run home run in the eighth inning and Josh Donaldson hit two solo homers as Toronto defeated Tampa Bay.

Smoak hit his 33rd homer of the season with one out against Tommy Hunter (2-4) after Donaldson walked. Smoak was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Dominic Leone (3-0) got the win despite allowing three hits and the tying run in the eighth. Roberto Osuna pitched around a single in the ninth to earn his 32nd save.

Indians 9, Twins 3 (Game 1)

Yan Gomes and Jason Kipnis each had three hits with a homer, and Carlos Carrasco continued Cleveland's strong run of starting pitching to beat Minnesota in the first game of a split doubleheader.

Jay Bruce had a two-run single in the first inning for the Indians, who earned their sixth win in a row.

The Twins struck out 19 times to set a franchise record for a game.

Twins 4, Indians 2 (Game 2)

Max Kepler hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the seventh inning after his slip led to an Indians run in the top of the inning, and Minnesota beat Cleveland to split a day-night doubleheader.

Aaron Slegers allowed just two hits and two runs in 6 1/3 innings in his major league debut for the Twins, but he didn't earn a win after Kepler fell while fielding a hard-hit ball from Carlos Santana and the Indians tied the game in the top of the seventh. Edwin Encarnacion scored from first on the play after singling as the final batter Slegers faced.

[to top of second column]

Trevor Hildenberger (2-1) gave up the hit to Santana but stranded him at third base with a pair of groundouts. Hildenberger pitched 1 1/3 innings as Minnesota beat the Indians for the first time in nine home games this season.

Yankees 7, Mets 5

Gary Sanchez tied a career high with five RBIs, and Luis Severino tossed 6 1/3 strong innings as the New York Yankees completed a season sweep of the host New York Mets.

The Yankees won all four games between the Big Apple rivals this week, two at each stadium. The Subway Series sweep is the second for the Yankees, who went 6-0 against the Mets in 2003.

The Mets are at least 13 games under .500 for the first time since ending the 2013 season 74-88.

Rangers 9, White Sox 8

Nomar Mazara hit a three-run homer and recorded five RBIs as Texas rallied for a victory over Chicago.

The win was the fourth straight and seventh in eight games for Texas, which also matched its largest comeback win of the season, as the White Sox led 4-0. The Rangers reached the .500 mark for the first time since July 15. Chicago dropped its fifth consecutive game.

Brett Nicholas hit a two-run homer and knocked in three runs for Texas. Jose Abreu homered and had three RBIs for the White Sox.

Cardinals 11, Pirates 7

Dexter Fowler drove in three runs and scored three as St. Louis broke a three-game losing streak with a victory over Pittsburgh.

The Pirates, who blew an early four-run lead, have lost five straight and fell four games behind the third-place Cardinals in the National League Central. St. Louis is 1 1/2 games behind the first-place Chicago Cubs in the division.

Jedd Gyorko and Tommy Pham homered for the Cardinals. Josh Harrison finished 3-for-5 with a homer and three runs for Pittsburgh.

Giants 5, Phillies 4

Jarrett Parker led a nine-hit attack with two doubles and two RBIs, propelling San Francisco to a victory over Philadelphia.

The San Francisco bullpen backed starter Jeff Samardzija with three innings of one-hit relief, helping the Giants win a battle of teams with the two worst records in baseball.

Cameron Rupp and Nick Williams homered for the Phillies, who lost their fifth in a row to fall four games behind the Giants at the bottom of the National League standings.

Nationals 2, Padres 1

Ryan Zimmerman's eighth-inning home run backed Edwin Jackson's seven strong innings as Washington edged San Diego.

Zimmerman's 29th home run, an opposite-field blast, came off reliever Kirby Yates' 94 mph fastball.

Jackson (4-2) was stellar as he beat the Padres for the first time after dropping six previous decisions. Jackson, who counts San Diego among the 11 teams he has pitched for, surrendered a run, eight hits and a walk. He struck out four.
