08/18/2017 NHL Note - Buffalo Sabres Girgensons, Zemgus

C Zemgus Girgensons agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Buffalo on Thursday. The team announced the contract holds an annual average value of $1.6 million. Girgensons signed a one-year extension last September and totaled seven goals and 16 points in a career-high 75 games. Since being drafted by Buffalo in the first round of the 2012 draft, the 23-year-old native of Latvia has 37 goals and 86 points in 277 games.


NHL Note - Tampa Bay Lightning McGinn, Tye

F Tye McGinn was re-signed by the Tampa Bay Lightning to a one-year, two-way contract on Thursday. McGinn, 27, skated in 21 games with the Lightning's AHL affiliate in Syracuse, N.Y. last season, scoring 10 goals and nine assists to go along with 16 penalty minutes. McGinn missed most of the regular season due to injury. Four of his 10 goals came while on the power play. McGinn also skated in 22 Calder Cup playoff games, recording five goals and 16 points.

NHL Note - New Jersey Devils Zajac, Travis

C Travis Zajac could miss up to six months after having surgery to repair a torn left pectoral muscle on Thursday.

Zajac had 14 goals and 31 assists in 80 games for the Devils last season, playing 19:43 per game, including an average of 2:34 on the power play and 2:19 on the penalty kill. He also had a 54.7 percent success rate on faceoffs. The 32-year-old Zajac is signed through 2021 with a $5.75 million per season cap hit. In his 11-year NHL career, all with New Jersey, Zajac has 155 goals, 280 assists, and a plus-26 rating in 779 games played.
