Aug 26 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Friday's Major League Baseball games:

Orioles 16, Red Sox 3

Trey Mancini drove in four runs, and the Baltimore Orioles collected 20 hits and took advantage of five Boston errors in a 16-3 rout of the Red Sox.

The Orioles, reaching a season high in runs and matching their high in hits, won for the third time in four games as they strive to stay alive in the crowded American League wild card chase.

They remain two games under .500 (63-65) but came in just three games out of a spot -- albeit with six teams ahead of them.

Marlins 8, Padres 6

Giancarlo Stanton homered twice as Miami toppled San Diego.

Stanton hit his 48th and 49th home runs and drove in five runs for the Marlins, who have won five of their last six.

He has hit 16 home runs in August and his multi-homer performance was his ninth of the season. Stanton also tied a career high of 105 RBIs set in 2014.

Phillies 7, Cubs 1

Rhys Hoskins homered again as the Phillies jumped on Chicago early and cruised to a win.

Phillies starter Jerad Eickhoff (4-7) earned the win. He went five innings while allowing one run and five hits. Eickhoff struck out eight and walked three.

Cubs starter Jose Quintana (4-3) did not have his best day. The lefty surrendered six runs in five innings on nine hits. He walked four while striking out seven.

Mariners 2, Yankees 1 (11 innings)

Yonder Alonso homered with two outs off Aroldis Chapman in the top of the 11th inning, lifting Seattle to a victory over New York.

Alonso entered as a pinch hitter in the ninth and reached on a walk against Dellin Betances. Two innings later, he produced his biggest hit since joining the Mariners on Aug. 6 when he lifted a 2-1 fastball well over the center field fence.

Twins 6, Blue Jays 1

Bartolo Colon pitched into the seventh inning and Jorge Polanco hit a two-run double as Minnesota defeated Toronto.

Colon (6-10) allowed one run on nine hits with one walk in 6 2/3 innings and did not record a strikeout as the Twins maintained the second wild-card position in the American League.

Polanco and Byron Buxton each had three hits and two RBIs for Minnesota.

Mets 4, Nationals 2

Jacob deGrom gave up one run in 7 2/3 innings and Juan Lagares had two hits and drove in a run as New York overcame another injury to beat Washington.

Mets starter deGrom (14-7) allowed five hits while striking out 10 and walking just one for the Mets, who saw Yoenis Cespedes exit the contest with an injury while running the bases.

Braves 5, Rockies 2

Julio Teheran, who came in with 18 straight scoreless innings against Colorado, allowed just five Rockies to reach base over 7 1/3 innings in a victory.

Matt Kemp and Kurt Suzuki each belted homers and Teheran (8-11) allowed five hits and two runs while striking out four and walking none as he improved to 5-1 in his career against Colorado.

Indians 4, Royals 0

Ryan Merritt pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings and Francisco Lindor had two hits, including a two-run home run, as Cleveland blanked Kansas City.

Four Indians pitchers combined for Cleveland's American League-leading 13th shutout of the year.

Merritt (1-0) was recalled from Triple-A Columbus to make a spot start, and he made the most of it. The 25-year-old left-hander struck out three, walked one and scattered seven hits.

Reds 9, Pirates 5

Adam Duvall and Scott Schebler homered, and Robert Stephenson had a career-high 11 strikeouts, lifting Cincinnati to a victory over Pittsburgh in the opener of a three-game series.

Stephenson (2-4) wore "Bob" on the back of his jersey for MLB Player's Weekend and gave up two runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. His 11 strikeouts were the second-most for a Reds pitcher this season.

White Sox 3, Tigers 2

Yolmer Sanchez drove in Tim Anderson with a single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Chicago a win over Detroit.

Anderson led off the inning with a double to left field off reliever Joe Jimenez (0-2), who did not record an out and took the loss.

Sanchez laced his walk-off hit about six feet inside the foul line in right field, easily scoring Anderson from second.

Rays 7, Cardinals 3

Adeiny Hechavarria had three hits, including a two-run double in the third inning, leading Tampa Bay to a win over St Louis.

Hechavarria recorded his first three-hit game since June 30 at Baltimore and upped his average to .238. Tampa Bay improved to 64-66, keeping them within three games of the Minnesota Twins for the American League's second wild card.

Dodgers 3, Brewers 1

Kenta Maeda continued his solid pitching since the All-Star break, and Logan Forsythe and Yasiel Puig hit home runs as the Los Angeles Dodgers continued their home dominance with a victory over Milwaukee.

The Dodgers improved to 52-14 at home, getting a combined one-hitter from four pitchers: Maeda, Tony Cingrani, Josh Ravin and Kenley Jansen.

Astros 2, Angels 1

J.D. Davis homered and Alex Bregman had three hits as Houston defeated the Los Angeles Angels.

Collin McHugh (2-2) gave up one run and three hits in six innings for the win.

The Angels lost for the fourth time in five games on their current homestand and fell 1 1/2 games behind Minnesota for the second AL wild-card spot.

Diamondbacks 4, Giants 3

Paul Goldschmidt hit his 30th homer and Zack Greinke (15-6) moved into a tie for the major league lead in victories in Arizona's win over San Francisco.

Goldschmidt's homer capped a four-run third inning against left-hander Ty Blach. He is the first player in franchise history with three 30-homer, 100-RBI seasons. Luis Gonzalez did it twice.

A's 3, Rangers 1

Khris Davis hit his 35th and 36th home runs of the season, and right-hander Kendall Graveman pitched seven strong innings as Oakland defeated Texas.

Davis hit solo shots in the fourth and seventh innings off Texas right-hander Nick Martinez. He moved into second place in the American League home run race behind the New York Yankees' Aaron Judge, who has 37 blasts. (Editing by John O'Brien)
