[August 28, 2017]  (The Sports Xchange) - Kansas City Chiefs running back Spencer Ware likely will need season-ending surgery after tearing the PCL in his right knee during Friday night's preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder said Ware also suffered additional damage to the knee.

Ware plans to seek a second opinion.

The 25-year-old Ware rushed for a team-high 921 yards last season.

Standout Dallas Cowboys middle linebacker Anthony Hitchens sustained a tibial plateau fracture in his right knee and not a torn ACL as originally featured during Saturday night's preseason contest against the Oakland Raiders.

The injury, reported by ESPN, is expected to sideline Hitchens for approximately eight weeks.

The 25-year-old Hitchens started every game for the Cowboys last season.

The Cleveland Browns officially named rookie DeShone Kizer as the starting quarterback for the Sept. 10 season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Kizer completed 6 of 18 passes for 93 yards against the Bucs.

Chicago Bears wide receiver Cameron Meredith was carted off the field with a left knee injury suffered in the first quarter of Sunday's preseason game against the Tennessee Titans.

Meredith, 24, sustained the injury when he was tackled low by Titans safety Johnathan Cyprien after a 16-yard reception.

The 6-foot-3, 207-pound Meredith led the Bears with 66 receptions for 888 yards and four touchdowns in 14 games last season. The third-year player missed part of the Bears' offseason program after tearing ligaments in his thumb.

Bears long snapper Patrick Scales also left Sunday's game with a knee injury. The team ruled him out for the rest of the game.

The Houston Texans traveled to Dallas after Saturday night's preseason loss in New Orleans because of the catastrophic flooding from Tropical Storm Harvey on the Houston area.

It remains unclear if the Texans' preseason finale on Thursday night against the Cowboys will be shifted from Houston to Dallas at AT&T Stadium.
