Helen Edith Hannah died on July 5, 2017 in Normal, Illinois. Helen was 92.

Helen Hannah was born on January 16, 1925 in Zanesville, OH, to William Webster and Ethel Cunningham. She attended the Sherwood School of Music in Chicago, where she played with the Chicago Youth Symphony. Helen then returned to Ohio to finish her degree of Music Education at Ohio University in Athens. She married Lewis D. Hannah (Duncan) in 1950. Helen and Duncan moved to Lincoln, Illinois in 1965 where she taught music for more than 40 years in the Lincoln Elementary and High Schools. She retired in 2005.

Helen was a lifelong music enthusiast. She played violin with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, the Peoria Symphony Orchestra and many others. She also conducted the Lincoln Orchestra and played in pit orchestras for countless musical theater productions in Lincoln, Illinois for the Lincoln Community Theater. Helen also enjoyed teaching piano and string to many private students.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband Duncan Hannah, and is survived by all of their six children, Samuel (Cherrie), Stephen, Elbert (Anna), Kenneth (Janet), Michael (Nancy) and Carol (John) Calkin. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Helen Hannah’s life will be celebrated on August 12, 2017 at a 3:30 p.m. memorial service held in her honor at her church, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Blooming-Normal, located at 1613 E Emerson St, Bloomington, IL 61701. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Bloomington-Normal or Lincoln Community Theater.
