[August 28, 2017]  MOUNT PULASKI - Charles “Chick” Holmes, 93, of Mount Pulaski, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday August 2, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation: 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday August 7 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski

Masonic Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday

Service: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday August 8, 2017, at the funeral home

Obituary

Charles “Chick” Holmes, 93, of Mount Pulaski, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday August 2, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Chick was born on July 13, 1924 to Ben and Selma (Grathwohl) Holmes. He married Betty Jane Fuiten on August 28, 1955 in Lincoln. She preceded him in death on September 20, 2014.

Surviving are two sons, Steven (Susan) Holmes of Tallahassee, FL and Scott (Janie) Holmes of Mount Pulaski, one sister, Dorothy (Richard) Palmer of Wentzville, MO. He is also survived by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and one sister.

Chick was a member of the Mount Pulaski Christian Church. He was a Past Master of the Mount Pulaski Masonic Lodge #87 serving five years; member of Chapter #121 and Commandery #39; past president, Elementary School Board; past president of Mount Pulaski Lions Club; member, VFW # 447; past deacon, Christian Church; and was 1st sergeant of a National Champion Shrine Drill Team. He enjoyed driving the Tin Lizzie’s during parades. He was a staff sergeant in Army Ordinance during World War II, serving in the South Pacific for thirty months.

Chick was a building contractor and carpenter who loved woodworking and traveling with his wife and family and loved his grandkids.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday August 8, 2017 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with Mark Weber officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday August 7, at the funeral home. Masonic Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Burial will be at Mount Pulaski Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded.

Memorials may be given to either the Mount Pulaski Christian Church or to the Family Life Center.
