Golfer Michelle Wie withdrew from the Canadian Pacific Women's Open before the fourth round on Sunday because of pain that eventually led to appendix surgery.

"Michelle Wie will have surgery to remove her appendix today at Ottawa Hospital," a spokesperson from IMG said in a statement. "Further details on her condition will be provided when available."

IMG, her management company, had not released an update about her condition as of late Sunday night, but on Monday morning Wie posted a picture on social media that show her smiling and flashing the thumbs-up sign from her hospital bed.

"I will be back to playing as soon as the doctors clear me to play!!" Wie wrote on her Instagram account.

Wie is expected to be out a minimum of two weeks.

The CP Women's Open was being played at Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club in Ottawa, Ontario. Wie shot 71-68-70 in the first three round and began Sunday six strokes off the lead.

Wie has been plagued by injuries throughout the year. She had to withdraw from the U.S. Women's Open because of a neck injury.
