12/02/2017 NBA Note - Cleveland Cavaliers James, LeBron

F LeBron James of the Cavaliers has been named the NBA's Eastern Conference Player of the Month for October-November. James averaged 28 points, 8.5 assists and 8.2 rebounds in 22 games while shooting 58.3 percent from the floor. James highlighted his strong start with a franchise-record 57 points at the Wizards on Nov. 3 and led the Cavaliers to 10 straight wins closing the month.

NBA Note - Houston Rockets Harden, James

G James Harden of the Rockets has been named the NBA's Western Conference Player of the Month for October-November. Harden leads the NBA in scoring (31.5 points) and assists (9.8) while shooting 45.1 percent from the field and 40.3 percent from beyond the arc. Harden's Rockets (17-4) own the best record in the Western Conference despite playing most of the first six weeks without All-Star PG Chris Paul.

NBA Note - Philadelphia 76ers Simmons, Ben

G/F Ben Simmons of the 76ers has been named the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for October-November. Simmons drew some comparisons to F LeBron James while leading all rookies in scoring (18.6 points), rebounds (9.4), assists (7.2) and steals (2.25). Simmons joined Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson as the only players in NBA history to record a pair of triple-doubles within their first nine games.

NBA Note - Los Angeles Lakers Kuzma, Kyle

F Kyle Kuzma of the Lakers has been named the Western Conference's Rookie of the Month for October-November. Kuzma led all West rookies in scoring (16.7 points) and field-goal percentage (50.4). Kuzma became the first Lakers rookie since Magic Johnson to collect 30 points and 10 rebounds in a game when he reached those marks on Nov. 17 against the Phoenix Suns.

NBA Note - Cleveland Cavaliers Shumpert, Iman

G Iman Shumpert had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Friday and will miss six to eight weeks, according to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Vertical reported that the surgery was to repair a small meniscus tear. Shumpert, who has missed five of the Cavaliers past six games because of fluid buildup, was re-evaluated Tuesday. It was determined at that time that surgery was necessary. Shumpert, who has missed a total of nine games this season, is averaging 4.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists.

NBA Note - Toronto Raptors DeRozan, DeMar

G DeMar DeRozan was in familiar territory when he scored 26 points and added five assists and five rebounds to lead the Toronto Raptors to a 120-115 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Friday night.

C Bismarck Biyombo made it 13 consecutive games with at least one blocked shot on Friday night against the Warriors.

NBA Note - Golden State Warriors Thompson, Klay

G Klay Thompson scored 27 points and the hot-shooting, smooth-running Warriors led from start to finish in a 133-112 victory over the Orlando Magic on Friday night. Thompson scored 20 points in the second half and hit 11 of his 14 shots, including three of his four 3-pointers. Durant added seven assists and four blocked shots.

NBA Note - Golden State Warriors Durant, Kevin

F Kevin Durant the luxury of speaking his mind. Durant scored 25 points and made 10 of 14 shots on Friday night agaisnt th Magic, but he was ejected with 4:52 remaining for cursing at an official following his final basket. "I guess I tried to show him (official Scott Foster) up, and he didn't like it," said Durant, who was upset about a no-call on the previous possession. "The refs run the game, so they get to ... if they are not feeling good, they get to just make any decision they want. I have to know they have all the power, and just shut up and take it."

NBA Note - Washington Wizards Morris, Markieff

F Markieff Morris scored a season-high 23 points for the Wizards (12-10), who had lost five of seven games.

Morris has been slow to recover from hernia surgery in late September, but a recent downturn stood out. He had nine points combined in the previous two games. Brooks revealed pre-game that he and Morris met earlier in the day. The talk worked.

Washington's third-leading scorer last season had a quick seven points and then scored another seven in the third quarter. He finished 10-of-16 from the field.

"It felt good. It's about time," said Morris, who entered averaging 9.0 points, five less than last season. "It's about time I had a good game. I have to keep pressing forward and be more aggressive."

G John Wall made his first public comments since being shut down for treatment on his left knee. The organization projected a two-week timeframe. "I kind of really don't know yet," Wall said about his return, according to NBCwashington.com. "I'm just taking it day-by-day and listening to what the doctors are saying. I'm getting another checkup (Friday) with the doctors, so I'll see where I stand."

NBA Note - San Antonio Spurs Gay, Rudy

F Rudy Gay spent his first seven seasons in the NBA with the Memphis Grizzlies, a period in which he evolved from a 19-year-old rookie into a key member of the starting five.

On Friday night in a 95-79 San Antonio Spurs win over the Grizzlies at FedExForum, Gay reminded the Memphis fans of the impact he can still have at age 31.

Gay, who began his career in Memphis in 2006, scored 18 points off the bench to help the Spurs to their fourth straight victory.

Gay made 6 of 9 shots from the field and was instrumental in helping the Spurs pull away from the Grizzlies late in the first quarter and early in the second when he scored nine straight.

F LaMarcus Aldridge led San Antonio with 22 points as the Spurs extended the Grizzlies' losing streak to 10 games, the longest in the NBA this season and the longest by Memphis since losing 12 straight in January 2009.

G Mike Conley said he likely will miss three more weeks with a sore left Achilles. Conley has not played since Nov. 15. "It's tough," he said. "Anything that has to do with your heel takes longer to heal. I just have to give it time." The Grizzlies are 0-7 without Conley in the lineup this season.

NBA Note - New Orleans Pelicans Davis, Anthony

F Anthony Davis exited Friday night's game against the Jazz with a groin injury in the opening minute of the fourth quarter. Davis had to be helped off the court and did not return. He finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds. New Orleans coach Alvin Gentry said Davis will undergo an MRI in Portland and will likely not play against the Trail Blazers on Saturday. Still, Gentry didn't use losing Davis as an excuse for the Pelicans' inability to defend the red-hot Jazz down the stretch. In the end, New Orleans (11-11) suffered a third straight loss.

NBA Note - Utah Jazz Mitchell, Donovan

G Donovan Mitchell owned the fourth quarter on Friday night en route to helping the Utah Jazz rally for a 114-108 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. He scored 17 of his career-high 41 points in the final quarter and hit critical baskets to put the Jazz ahead for good heading into the final minute. He broke a Jazz rookie scoring record and posted the first 40-point game by an NBA rookie since Blake Griffin in 2011. Mitchell passed Darrell Griffith, another former Louisville guard who set the previous Jazz rookie scoring mark with 38 points in the 1980-81 season. "It means the world," Mitchell said. "I've known him since my freshman year, and to be able to be in the same place he came to and play for the same school. It's just incredible. I'm speechless. I can't help but smile."
