[December 05, 2017]  (The Sports Xchange) - The New York Giants fired second-year head coach Ben McAdoo in a housecleaning on Monday morning, less than a week after the benching of quarterback Eli Manning created a backlash from fans.

The Giants also fired Jerry Reese, who becomes the first general manager known to be let go in-season by the team. The firings end a tumultuous week as the 2-10 Giants are going through one of the worst seasons in franchise history.

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski received a one-game suspension from the NFL following his late hit on Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre'Davious White.

Gronkowski could sit out the next game for the Patriots (10-2), who visit the Miami Dolphins next Monday night. He will appeal the suspension, according to multiple reports.

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith, who suffered a season-ending left torn Achilles injury in Sunday's game, has been suspended four games for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing drugs, the league announced.

Smith, 29, decided to drop his appeal and begin serving his suspension immediately after being injured in the 44-20 victory over the Detroit Lions.

Smith and the Ravens learned of the pending suspension last week, multiple sources told the Baltimore Sun. The Ravens are expected to place Smith on injured reserve this week. Players can serve suspensions while on IR.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor is considered day-to-day with a bruised patellar tendon in his knee, coach Sean McDermott said.

Taylor was injured on the first offensive play of Sunday's 23-3 loss to the New England Patriots. The 28-year-old played through the injury before he was carted to the locker room early in the fourth quarter.

When asked if Taylor would play for the Bills (6-6) against the visiting Indianapolis Colts (3-9) on Sunday, McDermott said, "When healthy, Tyrod is our quarterback."

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford does not have any broken bones in his throwing hand and is just dealing with soreness, coach Jim Caldwell said.

"Nothing's popped up. He's just sore right about now," Caldwell said.

Stafford injured his right hand after Baltimore linebacker Terrell Suggs stepped on it following an interception with about six minutes remaining in Sunday's 44-20 loss to the Ravens.

Atlanta Falcons cornerback Desmond Trufant is out of the league's concussion protocol and set to return to practice, coach Dan Quinn said.

Trufant sat out Sunday's 14-9 loss to the Minnesota Vikings following a collision with teammate Keanu Neal in the previous week's 34-20 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

A 2015 Pro Bowl selection, Trufant could return to action for the Falcons (7-5) in their home game against the New Orleans Saints (9-3) on Thursday.

New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham took to social media to claim a double standard exists on the heels of watching New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's fiery outburst on the sideline Sunday.

Beckham, who has come under fire for his emotional outbursts on the field, took issue with Brady screaming at New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels during Sunday's 23-3 win over the Buffalo Bills. Following an incompletion on third-and-11, Brady walked past McDaniels before turning to yell at him. Brady took off his helmet and was rather demonstrative with his frustration.
