Lincoln College is pleased to announce the hiring of Fancisco “Frank” Eguez to be the next Women’s Soccer coach.

Lincoln did not field a team in 2017 while the College sought to recruit a highly qualified candidate for the open head coach position, but the recent hire of Eguez has the program set to return in the fall of 2018.

Eguez is a native of Quito, Ecuador, where soccer is a national obsession. He and his family moved to the United States in 1981 when Frank was just eight years old. The family settled in the Chicago suburb of Palatine where he and his four brothers grew up playing soccer in park district and club leagues as well as in school.

Unfortunately, Eguez’ playing career ended due to a severe ankle injury during his junior year of high school, but his passion for the game did not fade. He began coaching at the club level for both boys and girls soccer teams, most recently as a coach with the Springfield Area Soccer Association (SASA). His club coaching career has been highly successful at the youth level with several of his teams earning tournament championships and finalist appearances. In addition to coaching club soccer, Eguez frequently coaches at soccer clinics and works one-on-one with area players in the off-season.

Eguez says he is thankful for the opportunity to coach at the college level and is excited to begin recruiting. “One thing I am sure of is that recruiting is the key to success at the college level,” said Eguez. “I plan to get going right away by reaching out to local coaches and using my club connections to build the 2018 recruiting class.”

Lincoln College will begin play as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) in 2018. Eguez sees this move as a positive step for the institution. “The fact that we are starting a team from scratch means that players who come to LC next year will play right away,” he said. “And the fact that they can now stay for four years means that our players will have the opportunity to grow with the program.”

Coach Eguez resides in Springfield with his wife Karla and their three children, Bella, Dorian, and Mikey. He can be reached at feguez@lincolncollege.edu.
