LINCOLN

At the Logan County Board Workshop on Thursday, December 14, Gerald Lolling was recognized for serving 40 years on the Logan County Regional Planning Commission.

Logan County Highway Engineer Bret Aukamp read the resolution recognizing Lolling for his years of service.

With his retirement Lolling's "distinguished career" is now ending.

Gerald Lolling was appointed to the Regional Planning Commission in 1977. He had a rural background and hailed from western Logan County.

The resolution said Lolling "tried hard and succeeded in representing all the people in our community, rural and urban," and he "quickly gained a reputation as an advocate for growth and worked tirelessly to balance such growth with farming compatibility."

Lolling also "gained a reputation as one of the RPC's most reliable members, rarely missing a meeting even in the most inclement of weather."

The resolution said Lolling "started his public career when spikes defined property lines and most agreements, especially with the rural populace, required no more than a handshake."

Lolling, "continued to contribute to the RPC as issues evolved involving new forms of energy, specialty crops, subdivision expansion, GPS and the world wide web and cloud.

"Through all the changes and evolutions through those four decades, Gerald has remained dedicated, knowledgeable, highly capable and a true gentleman; expressing everything good and noble in public service.

The resolution ends by saying, "Be it therefore resolved that the Logan County Board extends its gratitude to Gerald Lolling for making our community a better place and wishes him the very best as he commences a very well-deserved retirement."

The board gave a round of applause for Lolling. Lolling thanked them for the recognition and said he enjoyed his years on the Regional Planning Commission. Lolling also said he appreciated all the other people he served with.

The board will approve the resolution at Tuesday's Regular Board meeting.
