People are remembering or looking forward to
family, friends, get-togethers, the Christmas tree, gift-giving and
the like. Thankfully, many of us still rehearse the real reason for
the season, the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Yet, sadly for some of us, our thoughts are entwined in a web of
regrets, misunderstandings, and hurts that daily assault our mind.
Behind the holiday smiles may lay a grieving heart needlessly
burdened with regrets and disappointments of the past. It's all they
can do to mouth the words, "It's the most wonderful time of the
year." Some of the thoughts we may be struggling with could include
the passing of loved ones or friends around this time of year, health
issues, unresolved differences, financial pressures, unrealized
expectations, personal short-comings, and the list could seem
endless. Some could really get depressed just by making this list,
so please don' t. check it twice. ;-)
"Still, a line from another Christmas carol comes to mind - "the
hopes and fears of all the years are met in Thee tonight". What a
powerful thought! Wouldn't all of us be the wiser if we let Christ and
His Word be the filter of all this year's hopes and fears? Maybe the
busyness of life and heavy regrets have burdened us and block Him
from touching the secret places of our heart where the pain resides.
Since He already knows us, (our hopes, hurts, fears, and all), let
us release our guilt, pain, and every negative thought to Him.

In truth, let's allow our past to go as we ask
forgiveness. We may not be able to change the past or get a second
chance, but we can have a fresh start! Let's set daily Bible reading
and time with God as a priority. His Word, His Presence will
cleanse, heal, and free us. Then, with our heads lifted and voices
raised, we can join the carolers singing, "It's the most wonderful
time of the year!" Truly, enjoy a Merry Christmas, everyone!
