[December 20, 2017]    The Lincoln College Women’s Basketball team took their first loss of the season on Saturday to Southeastern Iowa Community College.

The game was closely contested right from the opening tip. Southeastern held a one-point lead at the end of the first quarter and the two teams went into halftime tied at 36. LC appeared to take control of the game by going on an 11-0 run to start the second half, but foul trouble for the Lady Lynx allowed Southeastern back into the game. LC’s lead was reduced to four by the end of the third quarter and Southeastern eventually took the lead and held on down the stretch for a 78-75 victory.

Nautica Preston (Chicago) led LC in scoring with 22 points. Erynn Young (Indianapolis) had 18 points and Allysah Boothe (Chicago) scored 16. Kaleia Monteiro (Rockford) had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The loss drops Lincoln to 12-1 on the season.

LC Coach Matt Vavro was not discouraged by the setback. Vavro said, “The first half was very close throughout. Foul trouble really hurt us as we had 3 of our starting 5 with four fouls at halftime which really hurt us on the boards. The team is looking forward to hopefully being able to bounce back on Tuesday vs Black Hawk.”
