[December 28, 2017]   The Section 9 FFA Public Speaking and Job Interview Career Development Events were held on December 11, 2017. After practicing for many weeks; six Olympia FFA members competed at the event in Bloomington. The competition was held at the headquarters for GROWMARK, Inc.

The Public Speaking team consisted of Molly Schempp, Cavit Schempp, Josie Litwiller, Mariah Maris, and Ragean Woolen. The FFA members competed by presenting speeches in the categories of prepared, extemporaneous, and the FFA Creed division. Conquering the fear of speaking in front of a group is just one of the difficult obstacles students were able to handle. They also answered five minutes of questions regarding their speeches.

Congratulations to junior, Molly Schempp, and sophomores, Cavit Schempp and Josie Litwiller who were high individuals in varsity extemporaneous, varsity prepared, and JV prepared respectively. They will represent Olympia and Section 9 at the District 2 event in May. Mariah Maris placed fourth in the Creed division.

Molly Schempp also won first place in the Job Interview competition. Members must complete a resume and cover letter for a job in the agriculture industry. Other requirements included completing a job application, a phone interview, personal interview and writing a follow-up letter. Cavit Schempp and Mackenzie Phillips also did well representing Olympia FFA.

“Once again I am extremely proud of these students who continue to work hard and put themselves out there to be judged. These skills are crucial to a successful career and these students have a clear advantage when they go to college or enter the workforce,” stated FFA Advisor Mr. Bryce Hoffman.
