[February 08, 2017]  The Mount Pulaski 8th grade boys basketball team got a second shot at the regional championship Tuesday night and this time the outcome was different. Mount Pulaski defeated Sangamon Valley in thrilling fashion 48-45 to earn the regional plaque before the home town crowd.

Just last week Mount Pulaski was defeated by Decatur Robertson in the championship. It was discovered later that Decatur Robertson had a player who played in the games versus Sangamon Valley and Mount Pulaski and he was not on their official roster. According to Mount Pulaski coach Doug Martin, IESA made Decatur Robertson vacate their regional wins which resulted in Mount Pulaski playing Sangamon Valley for the title.

Mount Pulaski’s exciting win came Tuesday night after trailing most of the game. According to Coach Martin, Drew Martin made a three-point play with 45 seconds left to put Mount Pulaski ahead. Grant Davis then got fouled on a three-pointer and he made two of the three free throws to seal the win, said Martin.

Mount Pulaski made five three-pointers in the contest and was 13 of 17 shooting from the free throw line.

Drew Martin led the scoring with 19 points and he also pulled down 10 rebounds.
