[February 09, 2017]   LINCOLN - The Lincoln American Legion Post 263 Auxiliary recently presented a check for $300 to the Hines Fisher House in Hines Illinois. The Fisher House, managed in partnership with the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital is operated by the Veterans Administration and relies on donations to keep its doors open.

The Fisher House house, much like the well known Ronald McDonald houses, provided a free, safe place to stay for families and caregivers while their veteran is hospitalized at the VA.

The Fisher House is a temporary residence which provides bedroom suites as well as communal areas, a fully stocked kitchen and a large dining area. The house has 20 bedroom suites, and since opening in 2010 has provided temporary housing for over 3,000 guests.

The dollars donated by the auxiliary will be used to provide cooking supplies, comfort items and personal necessities for guests.

The check was presented by Diane Farmer, the Auxiliary's Americanism Chairman, and accepted by Fisher House Liaison Florence Rooney.
