On Thursday evening, Lincoln/Logan County Chamber of Commerce Board President Greg Basford presented the 2016 Pride and Progress Awards at the Chamber’s Annual Dinner and Business Meeting.

New Business of the Year – Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Market
Basford commented that the Market had a mission to promote a healthier lifestyle in Logan County and that they had a very successful first year.
 

 

Excellence in Customer Service – Russell Stover Candies

Basford referred to Russell Stover as a “gateway to our community,” located just off the Interstate. He noted they are friendly and serve customers with a smile, and also are ready and able to tell guests about the community.
 

 

Distinguished Business of the Year – Copper Creek Cottage

Basford said this business is another great asset to our community that adds to the quality of life to those who experience memory loss.
 

 

Volunteer of the Year – Jim Bishop

Bishop has been heavily involved in Up in Smoke on the Square since its beginning. Basford said that he was an asset to the event as well as the community.
 

 

Doug DeMay Volunteer of the Year – Jennifer Kirby

Basford spoke about Doug DeMay who passed away recently. DeMay was a dedicated member of the Chamber and worked for the community.

DeMay’s close friend Don Peasley was called upon to speak about Doug. Doug came to Lincoln in 1994. He belonged to the Chamber, was a Chamber Ambassador, winning Ambassador of the Year in 2014. Peasley concluded saying, “when he joined the Chamber he was not just a member, he was an active member.”

Peasely went on to speak about Kirby who throughout the year has served on multiple committees, volunteers her time whenever and where ever needed, and displays that selfless dedication to the Chamber that reflects Doug DeMay.

 

 

Educator of the Year – Eric Grunder, Lincoln College

Basford spoke about Grunder saying that he was dedicated to educating his students and bringing out the best in them.
