[February 14, 2017]   Lincoln, a no. 5 seed in the Class 3A Taylorville Regional, had no trouble getting past the no. 9 seed Clinton Monday night.

Lincoln was off and running in the first quarter and scored the first six points unanswered.

Clinton’s Alyssa Saulsbery finally got the Lady Maroons in the scoring column at the 3:45 mark but Lincoln was too much to handle for them.

After Kaelyn Froebe hit a long three to close out the first quarter, Lincoln was up 14-2.

The Lady Railers lead in the second quarter would be 26-2 before Clinton really even had a chance to shoot the ball.

Lexi Peterson’s basket made the score 26-4 and at this point even Lady Railer fans have to admit cheering a little on the inside for the other team to make a basket so at least it’s more of a game. Lincoln’s lead at the half was 32-5 and it was pretty certain at this point Clinton’s season would end in sixteen more minutes of play.

The third quarter was typical Lincoln basketball with Grace Bossingham getting some points in the paint, Froebe and the Lolling twins all making their layups and Hailie Williams even adding a couple free throws. With 1:36 left to play in the third quarter Lincoln’s lead was 48-7 over the Maroons.

Again at this point it would be nice for Clinton to get a bucket. Finally they did. Two three pointers, in fact, hitting double digits with their score. Clinton trailed 48-13 as the third quarter was coming to a close.

But wait, Froebe decides to toss up a three and she watches it for a split second go through the net just in the nick of time. So at the end of three quarters of play Lincoln had a 51-13 lead over Clinton.

Lincoln was gentle on the Lady Maroons in the fourth quarter and both teams ended up even in the scoring column.

Leah Schneider’s free throws with 1:39 remaining would be the last of Lincoln’s scoring as Coach Taylor Richmond held the girls back. Lincoln’s bench just dribbled time off the clock to end the game. The final from the Taylorville Regional was Lincoln over Clinton 60-22.

That’s a winner!  The Lincoln bench applauds at the end of the game as the Lady Railers defeat Clinton 60-22 in the opening round of regionals at Taylorville.

Clinton’s season ends with an 11-18 record, while Lincoln sits at 18-12 and will play on.
