Russel Allen Garden Day scheduled for March 11th

[February 14, 2017]   LINCOLN - The University of Illinois Extension Logan County Master Gardeners will host Russel Allen Garden Day on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at the Meyers-Evans Student Center, Lincoln College. Sessions will run from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm, with registration from 8 to 8:45 am.

The public is invited for this event that will feature various presentations related to gardening, as well as displays by area plant and gardening societies. Pre-registration is high encouraged. There will also be a registration fee discount for those who register in advance.

The day is in honor of Russel Allen a charter member of the Logan county Master Gardener volunteer program.

Key note speaker Deanna Fratschi, Creating a Hummingbird Haven. She will discuss ways to attract and create habitat for ruby-throated hummingbirds. Deanna is a University of Illinois Extension Master Naturalist volunteer.

Other presenters and session topics will include: Pruning and Care of Hydrangeas, Rich Hornbaker, Hornbaker Gardens; Wildflowers of Elkhart Hill, Dr. Peggy Lee; Square Foot Gardening, Mel Tracy, U of I Extension Master Gardener volunteer; The Healing Power of Herbs, Amy Wertheim, Certified IL Herb Gardener; How Local Food Can Change Logan County, Katie Bishop, PrairiErth Farm, and Nicole Cox, Coordinator of The Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Market; and Create Your Own Stepping Stone, Carol Mills and Grace Wibben, U of I Extension Master Gardener volunteers.
