[February 15, 2017]  Lukas Aylesworth scored a career high 27 points Tuesday night as the Hilltoppers fell to the Athens Warriors 56-45. Aylesworth scored 16 points from the field and hit 11 of 14 free throws.

Mount Pulaski dug a hole early in this contest and trailed 15-4 after just one quarter. Gezus Oliver and Peyton Taylor were the only Hilltoppers to score in the first quarter.

The second quarter saw little improvement for Mount Pulaski and they managed to fall behind 36-12 at the half.

Aylesworth kicked it into high gear in the second half and he alone would score 22 of his points here.

Despite the effort from the senior, Mount Pulaski was still behind 46-27 as the third quarter buzzer sounded and the Warriors eventually went on to the 56-45 win.

Worth mentioning out of the Athens camp is the fact that Nick Hanner became the school’s assist leader Tuesday night. Hanner has achieved 503 assists so far in his high school career and is listed at number 19 on the IHSA list. Ironically both Hanner’s parents attended Mount Pulaski High School. His father is Robb Hanner and his mom is the former Laura Cherry. Nick has several relatives in Logan County, among them are Wayne and Kay Hanner of Elkhart and Marilyn Cherry of Cornland. Congratulations to Nick on this very impressive achievement.

The Mount Pulaski JV boys also lost to Athens 57-46. Dustin Murphy had 16 points for Mount Pulaski.
