Engineering Day at the Peoria Riverfront Museum

[February 17, 2017]  LINCOLN - Engineers Week is being celebrated this year from February 19-25, with activities planned across the nation to introduce children to the world of engineering. The Peoria Riverfront Museum is hosting Engineering Day on February 19th to celebrate. Prairie Engineers of Illinois and other Peoria area engineering firms and organizations have underwritten the cost to offer free admission to all attendees on Engineering Day. The museum will be open from 12 to 5 pm, with demonstrations, hands-on activities, and the opportunity to talk to engineers and explore engineering careers.

Participants at this year’s event include: Illinois Valley Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Materials, Caterpillar Inc., Central Illinois Robotics Club, Dewberry, FIRST LEGO League, Robotics Team 1736, River City Labs, Society of Automotive Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, Tau Beta Pi – Bradley Engineering Honor Society.

On February 18th, the film “Dream Big: Engineering Our World” 3D will premiere at 12:30 p.m., with additional showings at 4 and 5:15 p.m. on the giant screen at the Riverfront Museum. The film, which was created in partnership with the American Society of Civil Engineers, features narration by Jeff Bridges, and shows how engineering is pushing the limits of possibility, from the world’s tallest building to a bridge higher than the clouds.

Engineers continue to experience a favorable job market with demand for engineers expected to grow by 10 percent over the coming decade. Engineering is a very versatile degree, with career options spanning healthcare, agriculture, entertainment, business, environmental, infrastructure, aerospace, manufacturing, and many more.
