[February 21, 2017]  ELKHART - Richard B. “Slip” Gleason, 89, of Elkhart, passed away at 3:15 p.m. on Monday, February 20, 2017, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Visitation: Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Service: A Prayer Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2017, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Elkhart.  Rev. Jeffrey G. Laible will officiate.

Richard B. “Slip” Gleason, 89, of Elkhart, passed away at 3:15 p.m. on Monday, February 20, 2017, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2017, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Elkhart.  Rev. Jeffrey G. Laible will officiate.  Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln.  A Prayer Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Richard Bernard Gleason was born June 19, 1927, in Lincoln, the son of James Edward and Irene Hogan Gleason.  He married Karen M. Svenson on June 2, 1956, in Elkhart.  She survives.

Richard is also survived by their children: Elise (Tom) Harms, Theresa (Tom) Moore, Ann Curry, and James (Penny Thompson) Gleason; one brother, Donald Gleason; six grandchildren: Leslie (Chris) Urish, Justin (Sara Daugherty) Anderson, Zachary Moore, Kristie (David Rucker) Anderson, Jaymie Curry, and Meghan Moore; and five great-grandchildren: Brady, J.J., Ayleigh, Chase, and Devin.

Funeral Director

He was preceded in death by one brother: James Gleason, and his parents.

Richard served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  He was privileged to take the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. and was an avid Cubs fan.  He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Elkhart, Knights of Columbus Council #1250 where he was a 3rd Degree Knight, and Elkhart American Legion Post #616.

He farmed in the Elkhart area and served as Hurlbut Township Road Commissioner.  Richard enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, driving around and checking on the crops, and breakfast with the Veterans.

Memorials may be made to the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight or Elkhart Rescue Squad.

Final arrangements are entrusted with Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln.
