[February 22, 2017]    Feb 21 (The Sports Xchange) - The Carolina Panthers released Pro Bowl fullback Mike Tolbert on Tuesday in a move that reportedly creates $1,725,000 in salary-cap space.

 

The Panthers also released defensive tackle Paul Soliai.

Tolbert, 31, earned three Pro Bowl selections during his time with the Panthers, including the 2016 season. He spent the past six seasons with Carolina after spending his first three seasons with the San Diego Chargers.

Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebackers coach Joey Porter pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct citation issued to him after his arrest in January.

Porter, 39, made his guilty plea at Allegheny Magisterial District Court in Pennsylvania.

The former Steelers linebacker was arrested Jan. 9 after grabbing a police officer's wrists after he was denied entrance to a Pittsburgh bar by a bouncer. He was arrested on four charges but only charged with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.

The San Francisco 49ers named DeMeco Ryans as their defensive quality control coach.

Ryans, a longtime NFL linebacker, last played with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
