Letter of support for Wanda Lee Rohlfs

As you know, the City of Lincoln will be electing a new Mayor on February 28th. It is arguably the most important election in years. In fact, it may determine, to a great extent, the future of this town. We feel the election of Wanda Lee Rohlfs as Mayor will be a giant step in the right direction.

In the fifteen years we have lived in Lincoln, we have seen many changes - not all positive. Recent newspaper articles have cited some of these problems. The fact that we have four mayoral candidates reinforces the perceived need for change.

We became acquainted with Wanda Lee Rohlfs shortly after moving to Lincoln. Before and since we have known Wanda Lee, she has worked tirelessly for the benefit of Lincoln, beginning with her career as a counselor at LCHS for many years, serving as an Alderwoman for four years, and serving as Director of Main Street for seven years. She has attended virtually every City Council meeting for years. Also, she has written many letters to the editor regarding issues pertaining to this city.

[to top of second column]

Today, Wanda Lee recognizes a need for change in Lincoln. That is why she is running for Mayor. Since a City Administrator was hired several years ago, the role of the City Council has been reduced. Previously, they were more “hands-on,” familiarizing themselves with issues through committees. They were then better equipped to make informed decisions, and to vote accordingly. Today, it appears most council members vote as Mr. Johnson, the City Administrator, recommends, with very little discussion. Good decisions are essential in these troubled economic times. This issue was aired at the recent Mayoral Forum at Lincoln College, where Wanda Lee suggested that going back to the committee format would be advisable. She was the only mayoral candidate to express that view.

We believe that Wanda Lee is the change Lincoln desperately needs at this time. She is ready, willing, and able to accept the challenge of Mayor. She can “hit the ground running,” without the necessity of on-the-job training. Rest assured, she will give this part-time job a full-time commitment. In short, we are lucky to have her as a mayoral choice. Please take the time to vote on February 28th.
