Washington, the top team in the NHL, had its winning streak dashed at nine games. Pittsburgh improved its league-best home record to 19-2-2.

Sheary's winner came 34 seconds into overtime as the puck went in off the skate of Washington defenseman Matt Niskanen during a scramble in the crease.
