[January 20, 2017]  Heartland Community College recently named Amy Humphreys as its dean of continuing education. Previously, Humphreys was the director of marketing and public information at Heartland. Her start date in the new role was January 17.

As dean, Humphreys will ensure continuing education provides relevant personal enrichment and professional development courses to meet the needs of the College’s district, including effective community engagement and program planning.

“Amy has extensive experience developing business relationships, creating and delivering training programs, curriculum and assessments,” said Vice President for Continuing Education and Advancement, Kelli Hill. “This range of expertise will help Heartland and our constituents have a bright future as the College continues to provide learning opportunities for community members.”

Before joining HCC in 2012, Humphreys served as assistant to the dean for constituent relations for the College of Business at Illinois State University. In that role, she cultivated and expanded relationships with corporate partners, advisory board members, alumni, donors, university leadership, faculty and students. She established the College of Business Alumni Network that included more than 3,200 active members and managed large-scale professional development and relationship-building events. A National Board Certified Teacher, Humphreys has also provided more than 500 multi, full and part-day professional development sessions at national and regional conferences, in K-12 districts and for business professionals.

As Heartland’s marketing and public information director, Humphreys led a team of creative design and communication professionals to recruit and retain students, encourage giving and support the College’s priorities.

Moving into the dean role, Humphreys hopes to develop a strategy that supports the diverse areas of continuing education. “Heartland has clearly enjoyed extraordinary growth and established a reputation for excellence since its founding,” Humphreys said. “I believe continuing education has the capacity to be an even more robust engine of growth for the College.”

Humphreys has a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Western Illinois University and a Master of Education in Administration, Higher and Continuing Education from the University of Illinois. She has also authored several published books, white papers and curricular materials.
