[January 20, 2017]  LINCOLN - Gene M. Hilgendorf, 91, passed away at 7:09 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center of Springfield on January 19, 2017.

Visitation: 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday January 23, 2017 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader, Lincoln   

Service: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday January 24, 2017 at the funeral home.

Obituary

Gene M. Hilgendorf, 91, passed away at 7:09 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center of Springfield on January 19, 2017.

Gene was born on September 6, 1925 in Lincoln, son of William and Minnie (Carnahan) Hilgendorf. He married Anne Stults on March 15, 1952; she preceded him in death.

Surviving Gene are his children: Sue O’Hara of Lincoln, and William (Debbie) Hilgendorf of Lincoln, two grandchildren: Nathan and Emily Hilgendorf; three great grandchildren: Lillian Hilgendorf, Skylar Hashman, and Tyler Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter: Joyce Grimsley, granddaughter: Misty Johnson, two brothers: Earl and Richard, and one sister: Rachel Eeten.

Gene began farming in rural Delavan, moving to Lincoln in 1952 where he continued farming until his retirement in 1992. He enjoyed working with his son on the farm until the age of 89. He was a member of Lincoln Christian Church, Emden American Legion Post #506, former Broadwell Grade School Board of Education Member, and Broadwell Township Trustee. He was a United States Navy veteran serving during WWII.

Services for Gene will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday January 24, 2017 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Ryan Edgecombe officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday January 23, 2017 also at the funeral home. Burial at Hartsburg Union Cemetery will follow the service where full military rites will be accorded by the Emden American Legion Post #506.

Memorials may be made in Gene’s name to the Christian Village.
