[January 21, 2017]  LINCOLN - Elizabeth “Betty” Wirth Churchill peacefully passed away on January 2, 2017, at St. Clara’s Manor. She was born in Carlstadt, NJ on October 18, 1916, to George and Elizabeth (Eitel) Wirth.

Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” Wirth Churchill peacefully passed away on January 2, 2017, at St. Clara’s Manor. She was born in Carlstadt, NJ on October 18, 1916, to George and Elizabeth (Eitel) Wirth.

She married Frank Churchill on June 5, 1937, in Wappinger’s Falls, NY. He preceded her in death in 1991.

She worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II at Grumman's on Long Island, NY. Betty helped her husband run a linotype business from their home in Baldwin, NY and worked at Pickering/Stanton in Freeport, NY before retiring in 1982.

She enjoyed being a member of the Eastern Star and working on crafts for the Newark Valley Methodist Church bazaars.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Alice Pierson, and her brother, George Wirth.

She is survived by her son, Stuart (Linda) Churchill, her granddaughters: Pamela (Bill) Kunkel, and Angela (John) Stoltzenburg, all of Lincoln, and her great grandchildren: Nathan Kunkel, Danvers, Jordyn Kunkel, Bloomington, Ethan Kunkel, Macomb, Henry and Theodore Stoltzenburg of Lincoln, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Director

Cremation rights have been accorded.

There will be no services. Burial will be at a later date in Newark Valley, NY.

Memorials may be made in her name to the ALMH Foundation (memo line: Healthy Communities Partnership), 200 Stahlhut Drive, Lincoln, IL 62656 or charity of choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Peasley Funeral Home, Lincoln, IL, and MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, NY.
