[January 24, 2017]    The Hartem boys basketball team opened the first round of the Auburn Tournament Monday night with a victory over Springfield Lutheran.

The Stags handed the Crusaders a 62-49 loss behind 22 points from Antonio Coit-Kirk. Brady Wolpert and Alex Vetter each scored 15 points for the Stags in the win.

Alec Hayes had the first two points of the game and then he rolled his ankle in the third quarter and did not play again. He will be day to day, according to Coach Jason Garber.

Springfield Lutheran kept the game pretty close the first half. But following a 23-19 Hartem lead at halftime, Coit-Kirk caught fire in the third quarter and scored 14 points. He was helped by Wolpert sinking two three-pointers and the Stags extended the lead to 43-31.

A balanced scoring attack by the Stags in the fourth quarter allowed them to seal the 62-49 win.

Hartem will take on the host team Auburn tonight at 6:30 p.m. in second round tournament action.
