[January 27, 2017]  HARTSBURG – Thirty-five local high schools powered their athletes to new heights with chocolate milk last year. But only one team took home the crown of “2016 Power Up School of the Year.”

The Hartsburg- Emden High School volleyball team earned the title for their dedication to building healthy student athletes. The title was awarded by St. Louis District Dairy Council, a nonprofit education organization, and supported by local dairy farmers.

All 35 schools participated in Power Up with Chocolate Milk, an initiative aimed at helping athletes reach for healthy beverages after training. Research shows the high quality protein and nutrients in chocolate milk make it an ideal post-workout drink. Power Up involved athlete education, along with a grant to purchase chocolate milk and/or cooling equipment. The contest called for teams to submit a photo of their efforts to Power Up. The team that best illustrated how chocolate milk fueled their success was named 2016 Power Up School of the Year.
