[July 11, 2017]  July 10 (The Sports Xchange) - Despite reports that Ilya Kovalchuk was considering a return to the NHL, he will remain in the KHL for at least one more season.

Reports that were more recent indicated Kovalchuk would return to Russia, and the KHL announced Sunday that Kovalchuk will remain with St. Petersburg SKA for the 2017-18 season.

The New York Rangers named longtime NHL coach Lindy Ruff as an assistant, the team announced.

Ruff has served as an NHL head coach in parts of 19 seasons, with his 736 wins trailing only Scotty Bowman, Joel Quenneville, Al Arbour and Ken Hitchcock.

The 57-year-old Ruff has coached in 1,493 career NHL regular-season games to rank fourth among head coaches, behind Bowman, Arbour and Quenneville.

The Los Angeles Kings hired Pierre Turgeon as an assistant coach, the team announced.

Turgeon's primary responsibility will be to improve the Kings' sputtering offense, with the club handing him the label of offensive coordinator. Los Angeles ranked 24th in goals scored last season with 199.

The Dallas Stars re-signed center Radek Faksa to a three-year, $6.6-million contract, the team announced.

Faksa, 23, posted 33 points (12 goals, 21 assists) in 80 games for Dallas during the 2016-17 regular season, his first full campaign in the NHL. He finished fourth on the team with 101 hits and his total points were tied for fifth. Faksa finished second for team forwards with 62 blocked shots.

The Edmonton Oilers signed defenseman Yohann Auvitu to a one-year contract, the team announced.

Financial terms were not disclosed by the club for Auvitu, who recorded four points (two goals, two assists) and two penalty minutes in 25 games last season with the New Jersey Devils.

Winnipeg Jets forward Brandon Tanev agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $700,000, the team announced.

Tanev collected two goals, two assists and 26 penalty minutes in 51 games last season for the Jets.
