[July 12, 2017]  July 11 (The Sports Xchange) - Out since April 20, Madison Bumgarner is ready to get rolling with the San Francisco Giants and will start Saturday against the San Diego Padres.

The left-hander threw 86 pitches in Class A San Jose for the Giants on Monday and will be activated after the All-Star break.

With the Giants on a road trip in April, Bumgarner incurred shoulder and rib injuries in a dirt bike accident during an off-day in Denver.

The 2014 World Series hero had never previously been on the disabled list during his eight-plus major league seasons. Bumgarner, 27, is 0-3 with a 3.00 ERA this season.

Unable to replicate his success at the plate from last season, Chris Carter is a free agent once more after the New York Yankees released the slumping first baseman.

Carter, 30, hit eight home runs and drove in 26 runs while hitting .201 and striking out 76 times in 62 games with the Yankees this season. He slugged a National League-leading 41 homers with 94 RBIs in 160 games for the Milwaukee Brewers last year.

The slugger signed a one-year, $3.5 million deal with New York in February. He was designated for assignment June 24, but returned to the team June 29 when first baseman Tyler Austin was placed on the disabled list. Carter was designated for assignment for the second time this season on July 4.

The Baltimore Orioles assigned Paul Janish and David Washington to Triple-A Norfolk after both infielders cleared waivers.

Janish had been designated for assignment on Saturday when right-hander Chris Tillman was reinstated from the paternity list. Washington was designated for assignment on Thursday to clear a roster spot for the recall of second baseman Johnny Giavotella.

In 14 games with Baltimore this season, Janish was 2-for-26 with three RBIs. He was hitless in his last 12 at-bats. Washington appeared in three games with the Orioles, going 0-for-6 with five strikeouts.
