July 21 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights from Major League Baseball games on Friday:

Astros 8, Orioles 7

Yuli Gurriel, Brian McCann and Colin Moran all homered, and starter Mike Fiers tossed seven solid innings as the Houston Astros took a big early lead and hung on for an 8-7 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.

Gurriel (4-for-5) hit a two-run shot in the first inning and McCann added a solo homer in the sixth. Moran, who had tripled earlier for his fourth major league hit, then belted a solo shot in the eighth and finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Gurriel ended up a triple short of the cycle with his career-best four hits. Fiers (7-4) allowed one run and six hits in seven inning. He struck out nine with just one walk and won his second straight start.

Pirates 13, Rockies 5

After five successive comeback victories, onrushing Pittsburgh avoided another down-to-the-wire ending and breathed easier.

They took advantage of Coors Field, revved up their offense and extended their season-high winning streak to six games by pounding Colorado.

The Pirates have won nine of their past 10 games, 12 of their past 14 and have won nine of their past 10 games at Coors Field, dating back to July 27, 2014. The loss ended Colorado's four-game winning streak.

Indians 13, Blue Jays 3

Edwin Encarnacion fell a triple shy of the cycle and had four RBIs as Cleveland beat Toronto.

Encarnacion, who played eight years in Toronto before signing with Cleveland as a free agent last winter, leads the Indians with 20 home runs and 54 RBIs.

Rangers 4, Rays 3 (10 innings)

Texas rallied on Shin-Soo Choo's two-run homer to tie Tampa Bay in the ninth inning and then won on Elvis Andrus' RBI single in the 10th to end a five-game losing streak.

Jonathan Lucroy led off the 10th with a walk from Brad Boxberger (2-1), advanced on a sacrifice bunt and flyout, then scored when Andrus beat the throw to first on a ground ball deep to third base.

Cardinals 11, Cubs 4

Paul DeJong's bases-loaded, two-base hit delivered the go-ahead runs while nine straight batters scored in a decisive eighth inning in St. Louis' come-from-behind victory over Chicago.

The victory snapped the Cardinals' two-game losing streak and also ended a six-game winning run by the Cubs. DeJong (1-for-5) doubled off Cubs reliever Hector Rondon to score Tommy Pham and Dexter Fowler for a 5-3 lead with none out.

Phillies 6, Brewers 1

Aaron Nola pitched seven innings of one-run ball, striking out nine as Philadelphia sent Milwaukee to its sixth consecutive loss.

Nola (7-6) lowered his ERA in July to 1.61, allowing two earned runs or fewer in every start this month. The Phillies went to work against the Brewers' bullpen in the bottom of the sixth. Carlos Torres gave up four earned runs, four hits and two walks, including a two-run double off the center-field fence to Tommy Joseph, to give the Phillies a 6-1 advantage.

Mets 7, Athletics 5

Michael Conforto hit a pair of two-run homers and New York staved off a late rally by Oakland.

The Mets have won three straight and the Athletics have lost three of four. Conforto's first homer put the New York on the board in the third inning and his second blast provided what proved to be vital insurance runs in the seventh. T.J. Rivera had the go-ahead two-run single in the sixth and scored from second when third baseman Matt Chapman threw past second base and into deep right field.

Marlins 3, Reds 1

Jose Urena allowed a run on three hits through six innings and Christian Yelich had two RBIs, lifting Miami to a victory over Cincinnati.

Urena (8-4) walked two and struck out four over his 90-pitch outing. He also doubled for the first time for just his second hit this season. The start of Friday's game was delayed one hour and 47 minutes by rain.

Tigers 6, Twins 3

Victor Martinez homered twice to support Anibal Sanchez's sixth start of the season as Detroit beat Minnesota.

Nicholas Castellanos, Mikie Mahtook and Jose Iglesias each had two hits as the bottom five of the Detroit batting order went 9-for-18. The Tigers beat Minnesota for the fifth time in seven games this season.

Royals 7, White Sox 6 (10 innings)

Whit Merrifield drove in three runs, including the game-winner in the 10th inning, as Kansas City rallied to beat Chicago.

Merrifield's sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the 10th brought home Alcides Escobar for the walk-off victory.

Escobar and Alex Gordon, who had three hits and three RBIs, started the inning with singles. They advanced on a wild pitch and pinch-hitter Jorge Bonifacio walked to load the bases to set the stage for Merrifield's sacrifice fly.

Red Sox 6, Angels 2

Chris Sale shut out Los Angeles on four hits in six innings, riding a five-run first inning from his teammates and lifting Boston to the win.

Sale (12-4) struck out nine, reaching the 200-strikeout milestone for the season. It took him just 141 1/3 innings to get there, the fastest to 200 in major league history. Only three other pitchers -- Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson and Pedro Martinez -- have reached 200 in 20 starts or fewer.

Braves 12, Dodgers 3

Jaime Garcia hit a grand slam and pitched seven effective innings as Atlanta thumped Los Angeles.

Garcia (4-7) also had a hand in two other runs when Alex Wood botched Garcia's popup in the fourth inning for a two-run error. Tyler Flowers added a three-run shot in the sixth to give him four RBIs to match Garcia in the Braves' 13-hit attack.

Wood (11-1) lost for the first time since May 30, 2016, a span of 14 consecutive starts. He also was defeated for the initial time this year at Dodger Stadium.

Yankees 5, Mariners 1

Aaron Judge hit a three-run homer that nearly left Safeco Field and drove in four runs as New York defeated Seattle.

Judge's fifth-inning blast, his major league-leading 31st homer of the season and his first since winning the Home Run Derby, landed in the third-to-last row of the second deck in left field. It came on a 2-1 hanging curveball from Mariners rookie right-hander Andrew Moore and traveled an estimated 450 feet.

Diamondbacks 6, Nationals 5

David Peralta, A.J. Pollock and Jake Lamb homered off Max Scherzer to lead off the Arizona first inning, but the Diamondbacks needed a walk-off single by Brandon Drury with one out in the ninth inning for a victory over Washington.

Pollock tripled to open the ninth inning off Enny Romero (2-4) before Nationals manager Dusty Baker intentionally walked Jake Lamb and Paul Goldschmidt to load the bases.

Padres 12, Giants 9 (11 innings)

The fourth hits of the game by Matt Szczur, Jose Pirela and Carlos Asuaje drove in runs in the 11th inning, delivering San Diego a victory over San Francisco.

Wil Myers and Hector Sanchez homered for the Padres, who have prevailed in eight of their last 11 games against the Giants and seven of their last eight visits to AT&T Park.

Hunter Pence had three hits and two RBIs for the Giants, who led 4-0, 5-1 and 6-2 at different stages of the first four innings.
