MONMOUTH,
– Hartsburg-Emden High School’s Alec Hayes has announced his plans
to enroll at Monmouth College this fall and play basketball for the
Fighting Scots.
Hayes, a 6-foot-6 forward who was a 1,000-point scorer for the
Stags, will play for Todd Skrivseth at Monmouth. Skrivseth enters
his seventh season guiding the Fighting Scot’s men’s basketball
program.
“Alec is a versatile interior player who can stretch his scoring to
the three-point line,” said Skrivseth. “We’re excited he is joining
our program and will compete for an opportunity as a much needed
interior player.”
The four-year letter winner also turned in an MVP year for the Stags
and earned first team all-Tomahawk Conference honors. Academically,
Hayes graduated as the class valedictorian.
“Alec defines the term ‘student-athlete,’ excelling on and off the
court,” said his high school coach Jason Garber. “He has been an
exceptional role model in all aspects. Athletically, he has the
skill set to go inside or outside. Monmouth has found themselves one
heck of a basketball player.”

In the last three years Monmouth has produced five all-conference
selections and one all-region honoree. The Scots return two all-conference
selections for the 2017-18 campaign.
