SPRINGFIELD
– John Wilkes Booth is known around the world as Abraham Lincoln’s
killer, but he didn’t act alone. Researcher Dave Taylor explains the
role that others played in the president’s murder when he speaks
June 27 at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.
Taylor will discuss the conspirators behind Lincoln’s assassination,
particularly the four who were executed. One of the four was female,
marking the first time the U.S. government had executed a woman.
His free presentation takes place in the ALPLM’s library building
(112 N. Sixth Street, Springfield) at 5:30 p.m. For reservations,
visit

event reservations.”
The presentation is entitled “You Know Best, Captain: The Executed
Conspirators in Lincoln’s Assassination.”
The title comes from an exchange between the executioner and one of
the condemned men. The executioner told prisoner Lewis Powell, “I
want you to die quick.” Powell replied, “You know best, captain.”
The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum
is dedicated to telling the story of America’s 16th president
through old-fashioned scholarship and modern technology.
